Today, East Lake is a bedroom community with around 30,000 residents, and covers 33 sq. mi. Strangly, it has addresses from three separate post offices- Tarpon Springs in the north, Palm Harbor in the middle, and Oldsmar in the south. As of 2008, there have been over 15,000 homes built, 130 subdivisions deliniated, and nearly 150 businesses established.

East Lake is also a golfer’s paradise with six eighteen-hole golf courses: East Lake Woodlands North, East Lake Woodlands South, Tarpon Woods, Lansbrook and Wentworth.

The Pinellas Trail runs from the south end of East Lake to Tarpon Springs Avenue.
